District Excise Officer (DEO) Subodh Kumar Srivastava emphasizes that hosting house or community gatherings featuring alcohol without the required liquor license is a violation of regulations and could subject individuals to legal consequences.
A PTI report states, “If anyone is serving liquor without a license, whether it is liquor meant for sale in Uttar Pradesh or outside the state, it is totally illegal. It will attract action (from the excise department).”

The rule is made mandatory with an attempt to build awareness around the excise-related rules. Also, the authorities are now reaching out to the Residents’ Welfare Associations (RWAs) and informing them about implementing the guidelines for procuring the occasional licenses.
“The department issued 900 occasional bar licenses in November alone, which is the highest in recent times for a single month. This also led to huge revenue earning for the government,” Srivastava informed PTI in a statement.
How to get a house party liquor license
As per the official government communication, ‘occasional bar licenses’ for serving alcohol come in two categories. In the first category, a nominal fee of Rs 4,000 suffices for obtaining a license for a house party with a limited gathering. Meanwhile, for more substantial gatherings, community halls, or restaurants, securing the license requires an expenditure of Rs 11,000, and both licenses are valid for just one day. It’s essential to adhere to these regulations when applying for a liquor license.

According to the spokesperson, the primary objective is to guarantee the authenticity of the liquor served at parties. The liquor license ensures that the applicant procures alcohol locally, intended for consumption solely within the state of Uttar Pradesh.
