With the JN.1 variant causing concern, Karnataka’s Health Minister, Dinesh Gundu Rao, shared that more tests are being conducted for people showing signs of this Covid-19 subvariant. The state government is also keeping a close watch on border areas next to Kerala, where the variant was first spotted. Karnataka is taking a cautious approach by making masks mandatory for those aged 60 and above, as well as at-risk individuals, aligning with global worries about the JN.1 variant. In the latest update from India, there were 335 new Covid-19 cases and 5 deaths in 24 hours, with Kerala reporting four deaths and Uttar Pradesh one, all against the backdrop of ongoing concerns about the JN.1 variant, noted by the Health Ministry’s report of 1,701 active cases

  • Loss of Taste or Smell: While less common than with earlier variants, some people do experience this symptom.
  • Gastrointestinal Issues: Nausea, vomiting, diarrhea, and abdominal pain may occur in some cases

Current Covid Cases in India

The latest update from the Union Health Ministry reveals 260 new coronavirus infections, bringing the total active cases to 1,828. As of 8 am on Monday, the death toll stands at 5,33,317. The overall Covid case tally for the country now reaches 4.50 crore (4,50,05,076).
